  Local Epicurean Delights
The cuisine of Singapore is often viewed as a prime example of Singapore’s ethnic diversity. Often viewed as central to Singapore's national identity and a unifying cultural thread, Singaporean literature often declares eating as a national pastime and food a national obsession.

Food is a constant topic of conversation among Singaporeans who like to comment on the food they have eaten and the eateries around the country. Food in itself has been heavily promoted as an attraction for tourists. The government organises the Singapore Food Festival in July annually to celebrate Singapore's cuisine. The multiculturalism of local food, the ready availability of international cuisine, and their wide range in prices to fit all budgets at all times of the day and year helps create a "food paradise" to rival other Asian contenders claiming the same title. The availability of a variety of food is often aided by the fact that Singapore's port lies along strategic routes.

All through the day, there are many options for eating out from gourmet coffee shops and hawker centres to sushi bars and fine dining establishments.

The food paradise too does not slumber at night – 24-hour coffee houses dot the island to satisfy the rumblings of the stomach with a range of local fare that boggles the mind. Teochew porridge, caramel bean curd, or just coffee and cake – Singapore is home to it all!
